Community Exhibition
Plastics are not Fantastic
20 June – 26 September 2022
Alice Ellen Cooper Dean Community Space
Admission free
In this exhibition students from Weymouth College express their thoughts about the environment through posters, pledges and artwork.
To raise awareness of the ongoing climate emergency 64 students contributed ideas and created posters during the 2021 COP26 climate change summit in Glasgow. A selection of posters, artwork and posters are on display.
The students used a variety of creative styles and different media, including illustration, printmaking and collage. In particular, they focused on the dumping of plastics in the ocean, deforestation, the extinction of rare species, rising sea levels and most importantly, the pressing need to take preventive action before it becomes too late.
The students’ work highlights the pressing need to take action before it is too late. Through different media, including illustration, printmaking and collage, they show how the dumping of plastics in the ocean, deforestation, the extinction of rare species, and rising sea levels all have a devastating effect on the environment.
The artworks form part of the Create and Collect project, a series of community engagement activities with young people. Led by the four partner museums of the Wessex Museums Partnership, including the Dorset Museum, young people expressed their concerns on environmental issues and the climate emergency.
The materials used for installing this exhibition are recycled or from sustainable sources.
