Would you like to use Dorset Museum’s collections for detailed research or academic study?

From spring 2021 we will be welcoming researchers in our new Collections Discovery Centre. Research visits are normally on a set day of the week and need to be booked at least 28 days ahead.

Photographing Objects and Documents

If you’d like to use your own camera, please ask for a camera permit when you arrive. A day permit costs £8. Images can be used for research purposes, but please contact us to ask for permission if you would like to publish any.

We are not able to provide a photocopying service for documents.

Paper Archives

The Thomas Hardy, William Barnes and Sylvia Townsend Warner paper archives are now held at the Dorset History Centre in Dorchester.
